Road trip in Brazil
We started this new adventure in South America with one of the greatest countries: Brazil! For 5 months we have traveled this immense country to discover several of its regions. The distances are very important here but that did not prevent us from traveling as usual using public transport. During these 5 months we traveled mainly by bus through this magnificent country. We really enjoyed visiting it, whether through the diversity of landscapes between the Amazon, the splendid beaches of the coast, the reliefs of Chapada Diamantina or the impressive Iguazu Falls. But also by discovering the history and culture of the country by visiting historic cities, tasting the different culinary specialties, and enjoying the warm welcome of the Brazilians.
If you too want to discover this beautiful country, here we present you our 5 favorite places in Brazil. For more information about this beautiful country, you can consult our itinerary or the guides a bit more complete on the different regions of Brazil that we visited. In addition, you will find in this article useful information to prepare your trip, such as our good addresses, our budget or even some tips and good plans.
Enough talking, the following are the 5 places that we preferred and that completely charmed us during this trip. No surprise here, these are very famous places in Brazil that you have probably already heard of but impossible not to mention them here:
1. The Amazon
We started this discovery of Brazil by the Amazon. The lung of the earth, this environment so alive, rich and diverse and but currently threatened. We highly recommend an immersion of a few days in this breathtaking environment. We say goodbye to our usual comfort for a few days and we go on an adventure. The perfect opportunity to learn more about ourselves by discovering this magnificent flora and fauna that brings us so much. For more information on this discovery of the Amazon you can take a look at our guide dedicated to this part of Brazil.
2. The Lençois park
During our visit in northern Brazil, it was impossible not to discover the Lençois natural park. This immense expanse of dunes and lagoons where some native families of the reserve still live in the oases. It is a crazy experience to walk barefoot in the middle of these dunes for a few days and to be able to observe nature, animals and the daily life of the inhabitants in this magnificent Lençois park.
3. Rio de Janeiro
Impossible to visit Brazil without passing through the incredible city of Rio de Janeiro! This very special city lacks nothing. There is the sea with the beautiful iconic beaches like Copacabana, the mountains and many "Cerros" in the city which offer breathtaking panoramas and beautiful hikes. Not to mention the excitement of any big city, the diversity of neighborhoods, bars, restaurants, parties. But this city would be nothing without its people. We quickly let ourselves be charmed by the city of Rio de Janeiro and learned to enjoy life like a real Carioca.
4. The Chapada Diamantina
The beauty and serenity of the Chapada Diamantina make it a must for us in this discovery of Brazil. The Chapada Diamantina is a natural reserve of high plateaus, ideal for lovers of hiking. Life is sweet there, the warm welcome of the inhabitants of the region and the culinary specialties are not to be outdone. It is a very calming region far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities of Brazil and the landscapes are simply breathtaking.
5. The Iguazu falls
The famous Iguazu Falls are no longer to be presented and we could not miss discovering this wonder of nature during our visit. The falls are simply breathtaking, it is one of the most beautiful and impressive places we have seen so far. There is a strength and a beauty that emanates from this place, it is truly incredible. We couldn't have dreamed of a better way to end these 5 months of travel in Brazil.
To sum up, we spent 5 absolutely fantastic months in Brazil, from historic, colorful, cheerful cities to hiking in remote and magical places. We made the most of the beautiful beaches, the sun and especially the caipirinhas. As during our previous trips, we met some very nice people who made this adventure so special.
This is just a small overview which we hope has made you want to visit Brazil or has helped you in preparing for a trip in this immense and magnificent country.

- By plane : Brazil being a huge country, if you do not have much time there is a good chance that you will have to take the plane to go from one city to another. Otherwise, we advise you to discover only one region of this beautiful country and thus take the time to fully enjoy it.
- By bus : Brazil has a very well developed road network. There are many bus companies all over the country. You can look up timetables and prices online on certain applications such as Buson or Quero Passagem. You can also buy your tickets online although generally a CFT number is required. We recommend that you go directly to the bus stations, you will find all the information there, you can compare the prices of the different agencies and choose what is best for you. You can find information about our bus journeys directly on our map

During our 5 months in Brazil we traveled only by bus (except when we arrived), as usual we go to popular restaurants and street stalls or we cook our own meals. For accommodation we always take a double room or apartment, generally this comes to the price of a dormitory per person. Here is the breakdown of our budget for these 5 months in Brazil:
- Budget for the 5 months : 8053,78 € = 4026,89 €/ person
- Daily average : 28,70 € /day/person
- Some price ranges :
- Accommodation (double room): from 15 € to 40 € (or more, depends on your budget)
- Meal: from 2 € to 20 € (or more, depends on your budget)
We both took a prepaid card at the operator TIM. It is a widespread operator in Brazil and we had very good coverage all over the country.
